Ancient stone structures rise up in the vast silence of the Sinai desert: the nawamis, round megalithic tombs from the Chalcolithic era, recognisable by their western openings. This image captures a moment where past and present meet. The warm light emphasises the layered texture of the sandstone, while the open blue sky evokes a sense of peace and space.
The nawamis, believed to have been built between 4000 and 3150 BC, are among the oldest stone structures in North Africa and the Middle East. Their precise function remains a subject of research, but their shape and location make them fascinating traces of human history.
This composition invites stillness and reflection. It evokes an atmosphere of desolation and mystery, with a subtle reference to travel, discovery and the timeless power of the desert.
