A few years back, it was quite cold in the Netherlands. And on the balcony edge of my flat in The Hague there was snow. When I was outside for a moment, I noticed that on top of the snow layer was a strange shiny layer ga.
I went to have a look and saw something I had never seen before. Thin layers of ice in the most beautiful shapes and full of holes lay loose on top of the snow. The sleet, which was falling in other places on the street, had made a hard frozen layer on top of the snow. I felt carefully at one piece; it was not stuck to the snow. I was able to straighten it up which produced pictures like this.
The ice was almost perfectly transparent and had beautiful holes and rounded shapes. Where the ice had colour it looked a little white or cold blue. It was beautiful to see and I am glad I captured the magic of the moment because I have never seen it again.
