When I went to London for photography last weekend, the Natural History Museum was perhaps my favourite subject. I had seen impressive photos of this beautiful museum before and couldn't wait to capture it myself.
The challenge was to find an interesting angle and, not unimportantly, to take photos without an audience. The latter turned out to be quite a task. My strategy was to go in as late as possible, so there would be fewer visitors present.
Armed with my camera and my favourite wide-angle lens, a Voigtländer 12mm, I stepped into the museum around five o'clock. As soon as I was inside, I went straight upstairs as I had already worked out some ideas including this composition. Now I just had to wait for the visitors to be sent downstairs. Once that happened, I quickly took some shots, including this one where I placed my camera on the banister. By now I was the last visitor upstairs and was also kindly asked to leave the premises.
At home, I process all my shots to make them suitable for the wall. For this particular photo, it was still a challenge to remove the remaining people present, but after some effort, I succeeded.
