The Scottish Highlander also known as Highland Cow, is a mostly red-brown cattle breed native to Scotland. Thanks in part to their thick coat, this breed of cattle is suitable for year-round use as large grazers. The animals are therefore frequently seen in nature and recreational areas. They require little care and are rarely aggressive. Highlanders also feed on plants that many other cattle species ignore. The Scottish Highlander is one of the oldest breeds in the UK. Originally, most animals were black, but by royal decree of Queen Victoria - she preferred the red coat - the red animals were actively selected.
