Mount Cook National Park is one of the most spectacular parks in all of New Zealand. The park covers more than 70,000 hectares of the beautiful Southern Alps, lies on the west coast of the South Island and is named after New Zealand's highest mountain: Mount Cook.
This mountain has three peaks and with 3,764 meters the High Peak is the highest of the couple and of all of Australasia! Unfortunately, this mountain has been subject to a lot of decay in recent years. More and more often the Maori name is used for this mountain, Aoraki, which gives the mountain a beautiful meaning: 'the mountain that grabs the clouds'.
