A very clear panoramic photo of the beautiful view of the Tongariro National park in New Zealand where Mount Ngauruhoe plays the lead role. I took this photo during the tough day hike called the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The hike consists largely of steep climbs in a rugged volcanic landscape. The day started gray and wet but in the afternoon it cleared up. A huge stroke of luck, because the clearing provided the most stunning views. Mount Ngauruhoe is a volcano and is also known as Mount Doom from the film trilogy of The Lord of the Rings.
