Getting up early to drive to Friesland is a bit of a hardship, but it is rewarded handsomely! At 6 am, I was already ready with my camera to catch the first morning light. I was very happy with this photo, because the warm, orange light shows up well and the reflection of both birds is also clearly visible. The youngster occasionally walked away from its mother to explore the world a bit on its own, but always sought safety. The little one's beak, too, can already be seen curving upwards. Later in the day, the light gets brighter and whiter, which is why those first hours of the day really are literally golden hours.
