Waking up on the water is always a special experience. Especially when it is in a lakes and canals region in South India. The lakes in Varkala province. There is little or no wind and over the water the morning mist rises. Out of the darkness of the bank on the other side, a boat detaches with a man with a paddle. He disturbs the mirror-smooth surface in which the palm trees reflect. quietly he comes across looking for bottles floating around. That earns deposits. Because even though the surroundings look idyllic, life here can still be poor and marginal.
As a tourist, you don't have much else to do with that. You see the beauty of the surroundings, the tranquillity of the water, the romance of the simplicity of the people who live here. It is beautiful and very special to get up early for that and walk along the shore to enjoy this early morning.
