Monte Amiata in Tuscany can be clearly seen in this image, rising above the landscape below. Amiata is a lava dome with a distinct shape. Although it has erupted in the past, it is now dormant. The underground activity feeds local hot springs which are popular with locals and tourists alike. Monte Amiata is the highest in Italy at 1,736 metres or 5,695 feet.
