About ‘Mont Saint-Michel’ by Frank Lavooij

Mont Saint-Michel is not only a world-famous tourist attraction, it is also an important and ancient place of pilgrimage. The buildings on the rocky point in the water were built in different periods but still form an impressive whole. Mont Saint-Michel has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1979 for good reason.

World heritage site
Mont Saint-Michel is built on a rocky islet. Over the centuries, all kinds of architectural gems have been built here: the pre-Romanesque church, the abbey church from the 11th and 15th centuries, and the Romanesque and Gothic monastery buildings. During the French Revolution, the abbey was used as a prison, but since 1874 it has housed the Department of Historical Monuments. There is even a (small) monastic community present again, since 1969.

Wonder of the West
Mont Saint-Michel is also called - quite rightly - the Wonder of the West. And this is partly because of its spectacular location; the Mont is surrounded by a beautiful bay. The difference between low and high tide is extremely large (nowhere in France is it greater).

The spring tide in particular is a grandiose spectacle. You can see it dozens of times a year twice a day. Look here for the tidal calendar.
The bay is also listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. This is the vast area between the Breton Pointe du Grouin (Cancale) and the Norman Pointe de Champeaux, towards Granville. Nature is still wild and untouched here, but the beauty is that you can also explore the bay in many ways. Even wading with a guide. Never explore the bay on your own, the tide can rise very quickly, which is very dangerous!

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
