Monsanto is a place (freguesia) in the Portuguese municipality of Idanha-a-Nova and has 1160 inhabitants (2001). The historic village is built of granite. Monsanto is located on a slope of the steep mountain Monsanto (Mons Sanctus). It lies northeast of Idanha-a-Nova and rises suddenly from the valley. The peak of this mountain has a height of 758 metres.
