The Mona Lisa is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, which he probably produced between 1503 and 1506. It hangs in the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
In this work, it has been given a new look, as if someone had used a brush of gold paint to draw a line across it.
It is the portrait of a smiling lady, probably Lisa Gherardini or in full Lisa di Antonmaria Gherardini di Montagliari. She was the third wife of Francesco del Giocondo, who probably commissioned the painting. The technique used is oil on panel (poplar wood). It is among the few works that are certain to be from the hand of Leonardo himself. As one of the most famous works of art in the world, the Mona Lisa receives about 20,000 visitors a day.
