About the artwork

Mona Lisa in front of a window in Paris - Digital collage The Mona Lisa, an ancient painting by Leonardo da Vinci. Who is not familiar with the work? And the Eifel Tower in Paris, another icon. Time-wise, of course, this image is mega unrealistic. A portrait from the early 16th century, combined with a wrought-iron building from the 19th century, once built in honour of the World's Fair, and an eyesore for many Parisians at the time. Since then, the Eiffel Tower has become the icon for France's capital city and an integral part of the Paris skyline, and although it is an unrealistic combination, the Mona Lisa belongs in Paris for our liking, after all, it hangs in the prestigious Louvre and attracts 20,000 tourists daily. And the Eiffel Tower, built on the Champ de Mars, is, of course, the architectural structure of Paris, alongside the Arc de Triomph, Notre Dame, Sacré-Cœur Basilica and the Palais Garnier / Opera Garnier. It is mainly the Mona Lisa's mysterious gaze that attracts people. She seems to follow you everywhere. And that smile, is so minimal yet present. She is not exuberantly happy, but subdued and content. Besides, for many, the sfumato technique that Leonardo da Vinci used is a wonderful element in the Mona Lisa. Because you can paint with oil paint wet in wet, you can make the light and dark transitions so subtle that it is barely visible where something begins and ends. The Mona Lisa is probably the portrait of Lisa Gherardini or in full Lisa di Antonmaria Gherardini di Montagliari. She was the third wife of Francesco del Giocondo, who probably commissioned the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci.
