The heather is in bloom, marking the sand drift on the Balloërveld. The colours of green and purple provide a nice contrast to the sand. The tussocks of heather mean it is not a continuous carpet, The mist slowly lifts and gives atmosphere to the morning. The sun is still low and the place is quiet. No bird makes itself seen or heard. On the horizon, groups of trees fade into the haze.
