About ‘Minutes to midnight’ by Jeroen de Jongh Photography

Lovely long evenings in Amsterdam at the end of June. When it's almost midnight, the blue hour is still going on, and you get the moon as a bonus.

The Prinsengracht in Amsterdam is a canal that runs parallel to the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam-Centre. The moat, named after the Prince of Orange, is the fourth of the four main canals belonging to the ring of canals.

Construction began in 1612 on the initiative of mayor Frans Hendricksz Oetgens, based on a design by city carpenter Hendrick Jacobsz Staets and city planner Lucas Jansz Sinck.

The section between the Leidsegracht and the Amstel river is part of the 1658 explanation. During the last extension, the section east of the Amstel River was constructed. This part was given the name Nieuwe Prinsengracht.

In the extension of the Prinsengracht, between the Brouwersgracht and the Westerdok, lies the Korte Prinsengracht.
