On a clear night if you look closely, you can see the Milky Way in the dark sky to the south as a faint band of light. It is the star system, which our sun is also part of. A photo camera can see it better than the human eye. Still, you need good techniques to get a nice picture of it. This photo was obtained by taking the same picture 20 times, and superimposing them. The location is Schellinkhout, just east of Hoorn in North Holland; the water is the IJsselmeer, and to the south are Schiphol Airport and Flevoland Airport. The photos were taken between the planes taking off. The yellow band above the horizon is the result of all the lights on. The whole picture gives a sense of infinite richness and greatness of the universe.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall.. Read more…
