On a garden terrace, young couples are gathered around a long, set table. The elegant young people are depicted with a good dose of irony: dressed in the latest fashions and seemingly rather self-absorbed. The table includes a peacock pie and on the right precious crockery is displayed. On the floor are musical instruments and in the centre is a wine cooler with barrels, on which a little dog is sniffing. Large columns with draperies on the left and right give the setting a palatial feel. In the background, a church can be seen among the trees - given the overgrowth along the tower, the structure is in a dilapidated state. The contrast with the lavish luxury in the foreground is so great that it seems Buytewech is placing a moralising footnote here.
