About the artwork

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W 198) is an iconic sports car model that was produced in the 1950s and is still considered one of the most beautiful cars in automotive history. The history of the 300 SL begins in the post-war period, when Mercedes-Benz celebrated success on the racetrack with the 300 SL racing sports car in 1952.

The 300 SL was introduced as a road-going version in 1954 and was known for its distinctive gullwing doors, which were not only a striking design feature but also facilitated access to the interior. Under the bonnet, the 300 SL had a powerful 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine that delivered an impressive 215 hp. This enabled the car to reach a top speed of over 250 km/h, making it one of the fastest production cars of its time.

The 300 SL was not only a technical masterpiece, but also a symbol of luxury and style. It was appreciated by many celebrities and racing drivers and is still considered a coveted collector's item today. The combination of innovative technology, elegant design and racing history makes the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL a timeless classic that has captured the hearts of car fans all over the world.
