Mediterranean blossom magic in springtime on the Ionian Sea by Silva Wischeropp

I discovered this enchanting spring motif in the late morning hours during my Easter trip on 18 April 2012 on the magical island of Sicily in southern Italy.
The photograph was taken
with a NIKON D90 (lens: NIKKOR 80.0-200.0 mm f/2.8) on the east coast of Sicily by the beautiful, sparkling Ionian Sea.
The so-called Primavera is colourful, fresh and represented by a wide variety of blossoms, flowers and plants. The beguiling scent of spring blossoms is simply breathtaking and incomparable. With your eyes closed, your nose tells you exactly where you are – by the unforgettable Ionian Sea with its fresh sea breeze and gentle sound of the waves, which puts visitors in a meditative mood.
Sicily – the place to be.

Spring (Primavera) in Sicily, which often begins as early as February, transforms the island into a veritable sea of flowers, ranging from delicate shades of pink and white to bright yellow and red.

Almond blossom (February – March): is the first major highlight of the Sicilian spring. Countless almond trees bathe the landscape, especially around Agrigento, in a sea of white and pink blossoms.
Citrus blossom / Zagara (March – May): The intense scent of orange, lemon and mandarin blossoms fills the island, especially in the citrus groves. The white, star-shaped flowers are iconic of the Sicilian spring.

Sulla (Hedysarum coronarium) (April): In April, the fields and pastures shine in the full splendour of "Sulla", a native plant with fuchsia-coloured flowers that forms dense carpets.

Wild flowers & herbs: The landscape is also characterised by wild jasmine, mimosa, purple flowers, mallows, cyclamen (alpine violets) and various species of orchids.
