This work shows the imposing Matsue Castle (Matsue-jo) in the town of the same name, a rare and valuable piece of Japanese history. The castle is one of only 12 remaining original castles in Japan and holds the prestigious title of National Treasure.
Nicknamed the Plover Castle ('Chidori-jo') for the elegance of its roofs, the castle is built on a solid stone base. The dark, sturdy appearance of the wooden facades is characteristic of the 1611 architectural style.
The composition was captured at dusk, with a soft blue and pink glow on the horizon. In the foreground, a winding path leads to the entrance, flanked by an old tree. This image exudes the strength and unblemished history of feudal Japan.
