A riot of colours and myths: Taiwanese temple art in detail

Immerse yourself in the profound spirituality and unparalleled attention to detail of Asian architecture. This striking close-up captures the breathtaking façade and intricately decorated roof of a traditional Taoist temple at Lotus Lake in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The image is a visual celebration of Taiwanese craftsmanship and a feast for the senses, captivating with its immense colourfulness and cultural richness. Every square centimetre of this image tells its own story. The eye wanders over the characteristic curved tiled roofs, which are populated by a multitude of mythological figures, deities and majestic dragons. These so-called ‘ "Koji-Keramik" ’ figures are typical of the island’s temple architecture and bear witness to the highest precision of craftsmanship. In the lower section, traditional lanterns glow in intense red, forming a magnificent contrast to the deep blue, green and gold tones of the richly decorated columns and inscription panels. The golden Chinese characters lend the motif additional authenticity and spiritual significance. This opulent artwork is an absolute highlight for lovers of Asian culture, vibrant colours and detailed photography. It is ideal as a central eye-catcher (statement piece) in an eclectic or Asian-style living area. This wall art also creates an exotic, stimulating atmosphere in a study or hallway. To bring out the luminosity of the rich red and gold tones to the full, we recommend a high-quality print behind acrylic glass or on textured fine art paper, which emphasises the traditional aesthetic.
