Maserati has been known for producing some of the best Italian sports cars. Their first sports car, the Maserati Grandcabriolet was released in 1960 and has to this day still been considered one of the most famous and powerful sports cars ever created by Maserati. This was also the year that the first Maserati GranTurismo S model was introduced, which has to date continues to be the most popular GranTurismo ever produced by the Italian manufacturer.
The name Maserati is derived from a traditional Italian phrase that means "mastered". This is what the company set out to achieve with their GranTurismo S model, a sports car that would go head to head with the much larger and more powerful Ferrari GT. Despite being a less powerful car, the GranTurismo S managed to achieve a higher degree of speed than its competitors.
The exterior of the car is sporty, with sharp angles and sharp curvature all over. The interior is plush, comfortable, and beautiful to behold, using the materials and technologies of the time to create a true luxury car. As well as four doors, the GranTurismo S includes a two-door soft top, although it is rarely seen.
