Friedrichsplatz is the central square in Marburg's southern district and an important ensemble from the Wilhelminian era. The square was laid out at the turn of the century and named after Emperor Friedrich III.
Various streets radiate towards the square. Traffic is routed in an anti-clockwise ring. The row of lime trees and shrubs shield the square from the street and make it a valuable space for recreation and leisure. Benches invite you to linger, and the generously laid out paths are often used to play boules.
The visual centrepiece of Friedrichsplatz is the large water basin with fountain, which is framed by a spacious lawn and decorative flower borders.
