For work, I was in New York, a city that never fails to inspire. My camera comes with me by default, especially to a place like this. The energy, the architecture, the light, everything demands to be captured.
One early morning, I decided to head towards the Manhattan Bridge. It was still dark when I arrived, but the sky was slowly starting to colour. The clouds hung low and the sun just broke through them, creating a warm glow over the skyline and water. It was one of the most beautiful sunrises I witnessed there.
I had my tripod ready and chose a viewpoint where the bridge came into focus nicely, with the city in the background. By working with a zoom lens, I was able to bring the perspective together a bit: the bridge and the skyline appear closer together, making the image more powerful. Everything fell into place, light, composition, atmosphere.
At home, the second part of the process began: selecting and editing the photo so that it is suitable for my shop at Werk aan de Muur. This takes time and attention, but I enjoy doing it. If the end result matches what I felt at that moment, then I know it's right.
