Mandala means "magic circle" in Sanskrit. This is an ancient Indian language. A circle symbolizes unity and perfection and a divine level. A circle has no beginning and no end and therefore also symbolizes infinity and creation. Mandalas are a universal symbol.
This mandala was created from my intuition, from my pure 'being'.
When I draw a mandala, I always start from nothing. Purely by feeling I pick up colors and start sketching shapes. At a certain point, beautiful symbols appear. For example, a kind of space creature suddenly appeared. I thought this was so funny. I immediately thought of E.T. The space creature from Steven Spielberg's famous film.
A beautiful fragment from this movie is when the flower at the end of the film stood upright again and E.T. pointed with his finger and said 'E.T. home. That's when the tears came to me. So endearingly sweet. I thought of this moment when I was working on this drawing. That's why I called this work 'E.T. home'.
The colors green and pink are also the colors that symbolize the heart. Feeling yourself 'home' is also a feeling that is in your heart. There is so much pure love in this mandala. Really beautiful on the wall.
