On the cathedral square, right next to the famous Magdeburg Cathedral, there is a small attraction of a special kind: water features that move elegantly up and down in a constant rhythm. Especially on a beautiful summer's day with a blue sky - like today - it is a pleasure to watch the dance of the water drops.

Magdeburg Cathedral is the city's landmark. The cathedral is the first Gothic cathedral to be designed from the outset and the earliest completed Gothic cathedral on German soil.

Magdeburg, the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, is a central German city on the River Elbe. Magdeburg's Gothic cathedral is located in the centre and is the burial church of Otto the Great, the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Museum of Cultural History traces the importance of the city in the Middle Ages with exhibitions on archaeology and local history. The Romanesque-style monastery of Our Lady houses a contemporary art gallery and a sculpture park.
