The Lüneburg Heath is characterised by a large, flat, undulating landscape. The vast landscape of the heathland is protected from scrub encroachment by grazing sheep (Heidschnucken). This frugal breed of sheep copes very well with the rather sparse food supply. Here you can see a section of the heathland with juniper plants.
