About the artwork

This abandoned stone bird bath, hidden deep in the shade, is overgrown with lush greenery. The once clear and neat shape of the bird bath is now surrounded by dense tendrils and leaves that wind around the edges, signalling its transience. The former function of providing birds with a source of water seems to have been forgotten, while nature has completely taken over the object and given it a new, wild character.

The foliage that gently plays around the drinking trough forms a stark contrast to the rough, weathered stone and allows the viewer to sense the quiet, natural beauty that lies in the reclaiming of abandoned objects. Here, the coolness of the stone combines with the vibrant greenery to create a mysterious, almost meditative atmosphere. The surroundings are dark and dampen the incidence of light, making the bird bath look like a relic from a bygone era, embraced and preserved by nature.
