Los Angeles, a city often known for its hustle and bustle and dynamism, shows a completely different face in the early morning.
I took this photo from Kenneth Hahn State Park, a location that offers stunning views of the Downtown Los Angeles skyline. As the city slowly awoke, the sky colored in warm shades of orange and gold, making the outlines of the skyscrapers stand out sharply against the hills in the background.
The palm trees in the foreground, so iconic of California, gave the picture that quintessential West Coast look I was hoping for. It was a morning when conditions were perfect: hardly any wind and a clear atmosphere, leaving both the foreground and the city in the distance crisply visible.
With my camera on a tripod, I waited for the moment when the sun just rose above the mountains and the warm light enveloped the city. That brief window, in which colors and contrasts coincided precisely, produced the image I had in mind.
Once home, the second part of my work began: post-processing. In this, I carefully brought out the colour nuances and details, so that the photo matched as closely as possible the atmosphere I experienced on the spot.
The result is a calm and atmospheric cityscape that shows Los Angeles as you don't often see it: bathed in the first light of day, a moment of stillness in a city that never stands still.
