The wheel is 135 metres high, has a diameter of 120 metres, weighs 1,700 tonnes and has 32 closed capsules.
The wheel stands in London on the south bank of the Thames, opposite the Palace of Westminster. London Eye was commissioned by British Airways on the occasion of the turn of the millennium, celebrated at the beginning of the year 2000, and is therefore also known as the Millennium Wheel. London Eye is London's fourth tallest structure and its summit is accessible, spinning about 6,000 times a year.
