About the artwork

Lockheed Hudson "Tojo Busters", A16-112 (VH-KOY).

The Lockheed Hudson was used by the Allies on most fronts during World War II. The air forces of Britain, Canada, the United States, New Zealand, the Netherlands, China, Brazil and Australia all flew the Hudsons.

The Model 14L/214/414 Hudson, derived from the Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra 12 passenger aircraft, first flew in December 1938 and by the time production ended in mid-1943, a total of 2,941 had been built, most of them for the Royal Air Force and Commonwealth countries. The Royal Australian Air Force received 247 Hudsons in various versions between January 1940 and May 1942.

The A16-112 was built in 1939 and came to Australia in December 1941. During the war it performed various tasks such as anti-submarine warfare.
After the war it was sold to East-West Airlines (VH-EWA). After 6 years it was bought by Adastra Aerial Surveys for aerial photography.
In 1976 the family purchased Long, restoration and conversion to the original military configuration was completed in 1993.

I took this photo on March 4, 2017 during the Avalon Airshow.
