Little thieves in the larder – Woodland Friends share their winter haul

by Floral Abstractions

The little thieves in the larder have gathered amongst the shelves and provisions. A raccoon, a badger, a fox, a squirrel and a mouse are helping themselves to apples, bread, nuts and biscuits. The raccoon proudly holds an apple in its paws, whilst the badger carries a large piece of bread. The squirrel has found a nut, the mouse is nibbling on a biscuit, and the fox waits curiously by the open window. An empty basket stands ready, as if the Woodland Friends had planned their secret outing together.

The illustration tells a humorous story with the charm of classic children’s book illustrations and a Scandinavian-inspired design. Muted greens, warm rusty reds, greys, creams and natural browns create a calm, cosy colour palette. Wooden shelves, preserving jars, apples, biscuits and folded towels turn the larder into a richly detailed setting for this little adventure.

As a wall hanging, this design is particularly suitable for children’s bedrooms, nurseries, playrooms and cosy reading corners. The friendly forest animals complement interiors featuring a woodland theme, Scandinavian elements, natural materials and soft colours. Combined with other designs from the Woodland Friends series, they create a narrative wall display centred on the little thieves and their secret forays.

The open window connects the larder with the bare, wintry birch forest outside. This makes it seem as though the animals have just come in from the forest to top up their supplies. Children can discover which animal has found which prize, what’s still left on the shelves and who might be next to help themselves. In this way, the scene becomes a playful little story about friendship, curiosity and a shared adventure full of little discoveries in the cosy storeroom.
