Little thieves in the larder – Woodland Friends on a night-time foraging expedition

by Floral Abstractions

The little thieves in the larder are once again secretly on the hunt for food. A raccoon, a badger, a fox, squirrels and mice have discovered the larder and are scattered amongst the shelves, sacks and an open door. The raccoon is sitting on the shelf next to an apple, whilst several mice are peeking out of a large sack of provisions. A badger emerges from under the table, and two squirrels are watching the goings-on from different vantage points. The fox sneaks in through a small opening and also seems to be looking for something to eat.

The illustration tells a humorous story from the Woodland Friends series and combines the charm of a classic children’s book illustration with a Scandinavian-inspired design. Muted greens, warm rusty reds, browns, cream and dark blues create a cosy, slightly mysterious colour palette. Shelves, jars, boxes, sacks and scattered provisions provide the larder with plenty of little details to discover.

As a wall mural, this design is particularly suitable for children’s bedrooms, nurseries, playrooms and cosy reading corners. The friendly forest animals complement interiors with a woodland theme, natural materials, Scandinavian elements and muted colours. Combined with other ‘Woodland Friends’ designs, they create a narrative wall display depicting the adventures of the little forest dwellers.

The open door and the dark window make the secret foraging expedition feel like a little night-time adventure. Children can discover which animals are hiding in the larder, who has already found something, and where the next supplies are waiting. The scene thus becomes a playful story full of curious glances, little hiding places and animal discoveries. Amongst the shelves, each animal seems to have found its own favourite spot, whilst the warm lighting creates a cosy atmosphere.
