The lionfish is a tropical fish originally found only in the waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, but presumably due to released pets, it has also found its way into the Caribbean Sea, the Red Sea and the North Atlantic coast of the United States. They also occur in the Mediterranean Sea, for example. In all these locations, they pose a great danger to other fish as the lionfish eat all young fish.
Special programmes've been established to hunt this animal in the areas where it does not originally belong or to train predators such as groupers and barracuda's'to hunt the lionfish.
