The charming village of Limone is built on terraces at the foot of a steep mountain slope. Here, the houses cling to the cliff, one above the other, and the winding alleys of the picturesque old town are decorated with flowers.
Above them are endless olive groves and rustic lemon gardens. Originally, the name of the village of 1000 inhabitants had nothing to do with these. Limone comes from the Latin word "Limes" - border in German - because the border between Austria and Italy ran here for a long time.
Nevertheless, Limone has made the lemon its emblem.
The church of San Rocco was built in the years between 1529 and 1536 in the northern part of the town of Limone as a sign of gratitude for having escaped danger during the severe plague epidemic.
