In the summer of 2014, there were quite a few summer storms with lots of lightning in the Haaglanden region. Especially at the end of August, it went wild. During this period, I photographed a lot of lightning, but on one evening, I managed to capture a lightning strike. A gentle wind from the south drove some clouds past at a leisurely pace. The weather was very muggy and you could feel the tension in the air. Lightning bolts followed each other in rapid succession and suddenly.....BAM! a sideways lightning bolt ordered a lightning strike at the top of the Aqua residential tower in the centre of Zoetermeer Oosterheem. At the top of the Aqua residential tower is a crane that is used by window cleaners and for maintenance of the windows of the apartment complex, among other things. On this evening, the arm of the hoisting crane was slightly raised, making it an easy target for a lightning strike. This is, as yet, the first time I have managed to capture a lightning strike as a photo image.
