About ‘Lightning and city lights’ by Geert Van Baelen

In this abstract work, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of a rainy night in the city. It feels as though you are looking through a wet car window, where the raindrops and condensation distort the view and allow the colours of neon lights and car headlights to blend softly into one another. As a result, the city is not sharp and concrete, but rather dreamlike and blurred, as if memories are mingling with the present moment.

Although no people are visible, the scene still feels lively and full of movement. The city’s energy remains present in the reflections of light, the vibrant colours and the suggestion of traffic and activity just outside the frame. The work suggests an invisible bustle, as if the city breathes without you needing to see its inhabitants.

The primary colours, red and blue, form strong opposites that reinforce each other: warm versus cold, calm versus tension. These contrasts create a visual tension that deepens the nocturnal atmosphere. At the same time, the colours sometimes blend into one another, further emphasising the sense of rain and reflection.

Although the work has a clear, almost symmetrical composition, the whole still feels organic and natural. The clean lines are softened by the abstraction of light and movement, bringing order and chaos into balance and making the city appear both structured and alive.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
