The Nieuwe Rijn is a 2.3 kilometer long branch of the Oude Rijn in Leiden.
The Old and New Rhine (Dutch: Oude and the Nieuwe Rijn) different west of Leiderdorp near the Leidse Waardeiland and reunite in the center of Leiden in channeled form. The city of Leiden was developed on the land point on this side; the hill with the Castle built on it can still be reached from the Old and the New Rhine.
In the town hall of Leiden, a market is held every Saturday and Wednesday along the New Rhine. In the spring and summertime, the catering facilities have their terraces along and on (terrace boats) the water. Here the water likewise streams under the widely known Koornbrug and after the Visbrug it streams once again with the Oude Rijn.
