In 1360, the moat at the southern edge of Leiden was already mentioned. Where the name "Het Rapenburg" came from has always remained unclear. The beautiful old canal houses, the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and Hortus botanicus make this canal a unique piece of the Netherlands.
