About ‘Legal proceedings in Sluggishness’ by Retrotimes

This work mercilessly exposes the legal system by slowing it down. Two lawyers sit opposite each other in a stately courtroom, dressed in robes, lances in hand, banners raised. But their mounts are not horses. They are snails. Large. Unmistakable. Inevitably slow.

The setting is classic and fraught with meaning: wood, marble, symmetry, Lady Justice in the background. Everything exudes order, authority and tradition. And that is precisely where the problem lies. Because what is depicted here is not a battle for justice, but a procession of delay. The snails barely move, but they do move. Unstoppably. Like procedures that drag on, like files that grow thicker while answers remain elusive.

The banners speak volumes. Justice and judgement, placed opposite each other, not to clash but to linger. The lances are sharp, but useless at this pace. Power and urgency lose their effect as soon as time itself takes control. The judge in the background watches, but does not intervene. That, too, feels painfully familiar.

This work is satire with teeth. It does not laugh out loud, but it grinds. It asks questions about justice, efficiency and who really benefits from slowness. Is delay a fault in the system, or a feature?

As a print, this is a strong statement for those who know the law up close — or have been bogged down by it. It combines visual absurdity with sharp social criticism. Elegant, intelligent and uncomfortably accurate. This is not an indictment. This is an observation. And that is precisely why it hits home.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
