About ‘Last traces in the restricted area"’ by Thorsten John

In the foreground lies a heavily rusted paint can on a weathered concrete surface. Its metal is corroded by rust, the surface rough, brittle and streaked with dark brown and red hues. Between the traces of oxidation, remnants of vibrant paint – pink and green – flash through, a silent reminder of its original function: creativity, expression, making a mark.
Behind the tin, a bunker painted with graffiti blurs into the unfocused background. Bright red and purple tones break through the muted colour scheme of the site and contrast sharply with the dilapidated foreground. The soft depth of field deliberately draws the eye to the object – a remnant of artistic appropriation in a space with a military past.
The picture was taken on the grounds of the former Bundeswehr ammunition depot in Buseck near Gießen – during one of the last official tours of the area. The once strictly guarded restricted area, which was used for storing ammunition, now shows signs of decay, nature and urban art. The paint can thus becomes a symbolic link between two worlds: military order and artistic freedom. Where control and practicality once dominated, colour, individuality and transience now emerge. The image documents not only a lost place, but also a moment of transition – a final official visit to a place that is already undergoing change. It tells of time, transformation and the quiet irony that a paint can, of all things, becomes a witness to a story between isolation and expression.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
