The lapland owl (Strix nebulosa) is an imposing species of owl in the true owl (Strigidae) family. This owl is found in the coniferous and mixed forests of the Northern Hemisphere. Although the owl is named after Lapland, it has spread to all northern parts of the earth in addition to Scandinavia. Adult lapland owls can be recognized by their large round head with the gray face (veil), and the piercing, yellow eyes surrounded by dark circles.The lapland owl is known for its ability to locate small rodents, even under a deep layer of snow.
