The Haringvliet is a former estuary of the North Sea, in Zuid-Holland between Voorne-Putten and the Hoeksche Waard in the north, and Goeree-Overflakkee in the south. In 1970, as part of the Delta Works, the Haringvliet was closed off from the sea by the Haringvliet dam and the Goereese lock was built at the dam for shipping. The Haringvliet Bridge runs from the Hoeksche Waard to the Hellegatsplein. The island of Tiengemeten is located in the Haringvliet. The Spui flows into it between the Hoeksche Waard and Voorne-Putten.
