Pakistan International Airlines or PIA is a Pakistani airline based in Karachi.
Pakistan International Airlines was founded in 1951. In 1955, Orient Airways was acquired. Several acquisitions by private individuals and Qatar Airways were rejected by the Pakistani government. PIA was the first airline to buy the Boeing 777-200LR (long range).
In June 2020, the European Aviation Authority (EASA) blacklisted Pakistan International Airlines for six months. This followed reports that 262 of PIA's total 860 pilots had allegedly tampered with their exams. The malpractices were discovered during an investigation into PIA flight 8303 that crashed in Karachi in May 2020 killing 97 of 99 occupants.
