Lancia Flaminia on a Tuscan Golden Road

by Jan Keteleer

This painting began with a memory of light. I wanted to capture that fleeting golden hour when the sun sinks low over the Tuscan countryside and everything it touches turns to gold. Into that glow I placed a cherry-red Lancia Flaminia coupe, gliding along a winding dirt road as if it had all the time in the world.

Tall cypress trees stand like quiet witnesses on either side, their shadows stretching long across the path in strokes of ochre and violet. I let my brush move freely in an impressionistic rhythm, building thick, impasto-like layers so you can almost feel the texture of the road and the warmth of the air. Details stay suggestive rather than sharp, because I believe the heart sees more than the eye.

The chrome catches the evening light. The grille, the round headlights and the gleaming hubcaps become small sparks of reflection that bring the car to life. Behind it, rolling hills fade into soft blues and purples. This atmospheric perspective gives the scene its depth, the way distance gently cools every color.

Warm reds and golds meet cool greens and shadows, and in that contrast I find balance. For me, this journey is not about arriving. It is about savoring the road we share, one golden mile at a time.
