In the central massif of the Scottish Highlands lie the Cairngorms Mountains. A vast high moorland with deep and rugged valleys. The highest peak there is Ben Macdui (Beinn Macduibh in Gaelic). At its foot runs a mountain pass called the Lairig Ghru, surrounded by several craggy mountains. Here you can imagine yourself back in prehistoric times. An arctic/alpine climate prevails here for a good part of the year. As the British say : "Not for the fainthearted".
