This fast and wildly flowing river rises at an altitude of 600m in the "Grande Fange" (marshland) of Jalhay, in the heart of the "Hautes Fagnes" natural park (the High Fens). Due to its great decline (280m over a distance of 6km), the river is characterized by impressive waterfalls. At Parfondbois, the Sawe joins the Statte (north of Solwaster), which eventually discharges into the Hoëgne, near the Roslin forest. After a thunderstorm, or at the end of the winter, the Sawe likes to compete with the Hoëgne to live up to its "wild" name: chaotic and frothy; one only hears the clattering of the water falling down between the rocks.
