Koornmarktspoort, Kampen – Historical Evening Portrait by Fotografiecor .nl

The monumental Koornmarktspoort in Kampen forms the historic centrepiece of this atmospheric evening portrait, captured during the magical blue hour. The distinctive fan-shaped pattern of the authentic cobblestones on the square immediately draws the viewer’s gaze towards the illuminated archway. The ‘unique angle’ of this image is defined by the strong lens flare from the classic street lamp in the foreground, which casts a warm, atmospheric glow over the neoclassical façade of the former theological university on the right-hand side.

It is this specific interplay between the deep blue evening sky and the warm artificial light that brings Kampen’s centuries-old Hanseatic history to life in such an impressive way. As a photographer, this is a moment of tranquillity for me; the hustle and bustle of the day fades away and the city reveals its most stately and intimate character. Capturing the Koornmarktspoort in these lighting conditions requires patience, but the result is a timeless tribute to the heritage of the IJssel Delta.

This piece immediately evokes a sense of tranquillity and is the ideal addition to a space where contemplation takes centre stage, such as a study, library or a relaxing lounge. The deep contrasts and warm highlights are best shown on a high-quality print with a matt finish, which preserves the texture of the old stones and the atmosphere of the blue hour.
