About ‘Kōno Bairei – Yellow-browed Bunting on a flowering vine (1881)’ by Peter Balan
A yellow-browed bunting perches on a flowering vine. The fine lines and delicate blossoms lend the page a light, summery atmosphere. The sheet is taken from Bairei’s ‘Album of a Hundred Birds’ (Bairei hyakuchō gafu) from 1881. Kōno Bairei (1844–1895) was one of Kyoto’s most influential painters and teachers during the Meiji period.
