Kintsugi Highlander with golden cracks

by Henk Egbertzen

A mighty head of a Scottish Highland cow, but not as you’d expect. Its coat and horns appear to have turned into rough, cracked rock.
-
This work is a visual tribute to Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing with gold. The deep cracks in the material have been filled with shimmering, golden veins. It is a powerful statement about resilience and embracing imperfections.
-
Where something is broken, it is not ruined, but has in fact become stronger and more beautiful. The animal’s gaze is calm and majestic, despite the cracks running across its face. It radiates a deep sense of tranquillity.
-
The background is soft and captivating: grey, painted clouds are pierced by a warm, orange light that seems to come from beyond the horizon. This gives the whole piece a mythical, almost spiritual aura.
-
The texture is almost tangible. You can feel the rough stone and the smooth sheen of the gold. It strikes a perfect balance between rugged nature and pure, artisanal refinement.

This artwork is ideally suited to an executive office, a high-end hotel or a stylish living room. It is not just any animal on the wall, but a profound symbol of inner strength and timeless elegance.
